Terms of use

What this is

A free reference for planning a water heater purchase. Using it means accepting these terms; if they do not suit you, the remedy is not to use the site.

Not professional advice

Nothing here is plumbing, gas-fitting, electrical or engineering advice, and no professional relationship is created by reading it. Gas appliances and electrical service are dangerous to work on without training, and local codes vary in ways no national reference can anticipate. Have a licensed professional design, install and inspect the work.

Estimates are estimates

The figures here are assembled from published data on stated assumptions. They are not quotes, not offers, and not predictions about your house. A real quote from someone who has seen your installation supersedes anything on this site, and where the two disagree, the person standing in your basement is more likely to be right.

Accuracy and availability

Considerable effort goes into sourcing every number and re-checking it, and the site still cannot be warranted as error-free, current, or continuously available. Sources move, publishers revise, and prices change between the day a figure is checked and the day you read it. The check date is printed beside each figure so you can judge for yourself.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law permits, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss arising from use of it, including money spent, money not saved, or work done or not done on the strength of an estimate here.

Using the content

Text, code and tables here are the operator’s, other than material quoted from cited sources, which belongs to whoever published it. Quoting a figure with attribution and a link is welcome; republishing pages wholesale is not. Automated scraping that degrades the service for other people is not permitted.

External links

Links to sources exist so you can check the work. They are not endorsements, and nothing on the other side of them is under this site’s control.

Changes

These terms may be revised; the version on this page is the one in force. Continued use after a revision is acceptance of it.
